If you have to choose between working night shifts in a call center and working online from home, which would you choose? Alexis Federizo chose the latter. He resigned from his call center  job in Cebu and decided to pursue a home-based career in web designing.

Where It All Began
While working in one of the call centers in Cebu City, Alex took a course in web design and started to take jobs making web templates and themes to supplement his income. Eventually, more job orders came in and his earnings from his freelancing job increased. He  then decided to resign from his job, go back to his province and work full time as a home-based web designer.

Pay is Fairly Good

According to Alex, professional-level web designers can charge somewhere between $100 to $500 per website. Beginners on the other hand,  start at $10-$50 per website or $2 per hour. Alex, however,  rebuts the popular belief that more expensive web designers produce more quality work: "Many freelance web designers produce quality results that are half the price of those produced by web designing companies.".

Finding Web Design Jobs

Alex says new web designers can get jobs in sites like Craiglist, Dexigner.com, 99designs.com and Guru.com. Web designers can increase their chances of winning new contracts when they receive positive feedbacks from satisfied clients.

A Writer's Story: April Joy Garbin

April Joy Garbin is no stranger to writing articles and meeting strict deadlines. After all, she was a writer for her school's student paper when she was in college. Her experience and innate interest in writing has helped pave her way to pursue a home-based career in writing.

Perks of Being a Writer

The flexibility of her job as a freelance writer allows April to be active in clubs and organizations that she is a member of. Her job also allows her to earn money without compromising her ability to pursue other career opportunities that require her to work full time.  What she likes about being a freelance writer, according to her, is she gets to choose what topics to write about. She also considers her pay as rewarding because she gets paid for every article that she submits.

How April Started Her Home-based Writing Career

April started working online in 2010 as a news contributor for a blog network Allvoices. According to her, she found out about home-based writing jobs when a friend, who knew that she loves to write, referred her to apply to Allvoices.com. April currently works for Essays.ph, a writing company providing articles for US and UK based clients.

Advice for People who Want to Write from Home

Asked for her advice to people who want to work as home-based writers, April says it is imperative to find a legitimate home-based writing job website. She said that writers should be particular about salary payment methods because there are websites that only pay if you reach page view quotas rather than pay you for writing the article itself. She recommends Essays.ph because the site pays for every approved article that you submit and there are no registration fees.
